To Abby, From Morris

Blog

Books can produce magic. This is a long-held belief of mine. Every once in a while, the magic from a particular book pours out on you like pixie dust. The story contained within its pages ripples into every area of life, echoes your strongest beliefs and reflects all you know to be true and beautiful.

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce is one of those magical books. I want to share part of its story  with you in order to sprinkle some of it’s magic on one of my dearest friends Abby who writes at Painting Truth. You can find out some of her current story there. Hopefully you will hear echoes and  see reflections of your own story too.

Dear Abby,

You, soul sister, remind me of Mr. Morris Lessmore. His story in so many ways mirrors yours during this particular season of life.

“His life was a book of his own writing, one orderly page after another. He would open it every morning and write of his joys and sorrows, of all that he knew and everything he hoped for.”

Just like him, your life before last August was fairly predictable and orderly. Right?

But every story has its upsets…”

Everything Morris knew and could rely on was suddenly turned upside down and scattered …”even the words of his book.”  Being scattered by the wind feels familiar to you.  Your life too was taken up by an Oz-sized twister. Nothing the same and definitely not orderly. The disorientation and suddenness felt like the words of your book had been literally blown off the page. So, like our new friend Morris, you began to wander. “And wander.”

“Then a happy bit of happenstance came his way…..The flying lady knew Morris simply needed a good story…”

Oh yes, a good story. THAT is what you are needing and wandering about a bit in the waiting. Your happy bit of happenstance IS going to come your way. And until it does, please understand why your story isn’t flying but is only….

falling to the ground with a depressing thud.”

Your new story is being written in a place you can neither see nor discern. When the time is right, just like Mr. Morris Lessmore, you will be led by this new tale to a place you’ve never been nor ever could have imagined. The colors will come in focus and you will step into your new story with awe and amazement. The words of your new book will be gathered and read, loud and clear. It is a story that I cannot wait to hear.

“Stories, no matter how simple, can be vehicles of truth.” ~ Madeleine L’Engle

Be encouraged my friend! Hope…and then GLORY….are just around the bend.

(Side note to all…I have many more details to share about this extraordinary book…another post is on its way. Take 15 minutes and watch the Academy Award winning short film based on this book. It’s equally phenomenal.)
